Technology has an impact on teaching English as a Second Language. What we teach and how we teach has certainly changed. The rise of on-line communication (e-mail, tweets, blogs, etc.) and its place in everyday society influences how language is used. The types of technology (smartboards, document cameras, etc.) and software available for the classroom affect how language can be taught.
Some questions to consider are:
How does one teach critical thinking and literacy skills in this digital age?
What aspects of the English language are important to teach to ELLs who may be using these newer mediums of communication?
When allocating budgetary resources, how can a balance be struck between choosing technology and people? i.e., increasing access to technology in the classroom versus increasing ESL support staff and providing more professional development to classroom teachers
How does technology impact the direction of language learning?
